Sustainable transport solution for industrial coolers
Companies working with high-end cooling systems and heavy technical equipment face one major challenge: how do you move valuable equipment safely, efficiently, and without creating mountains of waste? This question is what brought us in contact with a partner looking for a robust, reusable solution for their transport flow.
The challenge: Fragility meets weight
Our client produces coolers and accompanying components that are not only heavy, but also sensitive to shocks during transport. The standard solutions, often consisting of single-use pallets and large amounts of stretch film, offered insufficient protection and created a constant stream of waste material.
The brief was clear: develop packaging that is "fool-proof", easy to handle for warehouse staff, and can be reused time and again. On top of that, the packaging had to become an integral part of the logistics process.
The solution: A hybrid between crate and pallet
In close consultation with the client, we developed the Dilopack OSB Transport Unit. Where many parties opt for standard spruce wood, we deliberately chose 18 mm untreated OSB board material.
Why OSB? It offers superior tensile strength and is more resistant to fluctuating humidity levels in distribution centres than traditional wood. We didn't place the pallet underneath the crate, but integrated it as a built-in foundation within the construction. This makes the unit extremely stable and immediately ready for the forks of a forklift or pallet truck.

From prototype to standard
At Dilopack, the process doesn't stop at a drawing. We started with an on-site visit to see exactly how the coolers are loaded. Production only began after the first prototype had been tested in practice for sturdiness and handling.
The result is packaging that is built like a rock. The untreated finish of the OSB also gives the units an industrial, honest look that perfectly matches the client's quality image.
